Do I need to re-install all of my old hardware (the things that the computer store usually installs for you at first.) Do i have to reinstall my motherboard and processor and sound card (etc) to enable them to be compatible with windows 7? Yeah, upgrading from windows xp sucks.

all your things go to a folder called windows.old and when i installed from xp to 7, all my drivers were there.
Window 7 automatic detect the driver & update at window update time……..so don’t worry ! ! ! ! Microsoft handle it ..! ! ! ! !
Typically Windows 7 will slap a generic driver for all your major components.
However run the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor and it will let you know of any potential hardware or software conflicts you may experience while upgrading.

hope this helps.
there is no need for any drivers in windows 7. The OS would itself have the in built audio and video driver software for your system irrespective of the hardware u have.If u have Original OS u can use windows update option to keep it up to date.
Windows 7 automatically installs most of the drivers and you should not have a problem.
Try running Windows Update and it should be taken care of…
your graphics/video , and sound card may need replacing with more advanced ones if you experience trouble playing music, DVDs or games. when i upgraded to vista from XP, sound would not work at all, and DVDs would not play properly. luckily, only drivers had to be installed.
All you need to do, is test all the primary functions you are planning on using. when you establish whether things still work or not:-
If they do, you should be fine.
If not, go-to “microsoft download centre”, and look for all the thing you need… if they ain’t got what you need, look on google.
Hope that stuff helps, probably not, but have fun anyway………
Windows 7 itself should include most of them, and/or they’ll show up on Windows Update.
You can double check at the manufacturer’s website(s) to ensure you got everything, but the OS should generally get you up and functional fairly well itself.
You shouldn’t have to reinstall all your hardware. Just make sure you run the upgrade advisor to make sure your computer can run Windows 7: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/downloads/upgrade-advisor. Some drivers may be out of date, you can update these with the manufacuturer or at the Windows 7 compatibility center:http://www.microsoft.com/windows/compatibility/windows-7/en-us/default.aspx.
Follow this step-by-step and your upgrade should be pretty easy, http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/help/upgrading-from-windows-vista-to-windows-7-custom.
Cheers.

Just download and run the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor to see if your PC is ready for Windows 7. It scans your hardware, devices, and installed programs for known compatibility issues, gives you guidance on how to resolve potential issues found, and recommends what to do before you upgrade. If you need more help on this, contact our 24/7 Microsoft Support Service
Windows 7 depending on the age of the Hardware should detect and install the necessary drivers plus have any software discs. you have ready to hand. However this is not an exact science as if your Hardware was specifically manufactured to run on XP then drivers may not be available. The upside to this is Hardware detection on Windows 7 is much improved to that of Vista.
