The laptop is wireless. I have installed the printer on the laptop which clearly shows it. I leave the main computer on then press print on the laptop. It comes up with an error message. The laptop uses Vista, the main computer uses XP. I don’t want to use wires and the printer can’t be connected to the router via an ethernet cable. Is there a way to do what I am trying to do or do Vista and XP clash?

there is not clash of OS there must be some prob in the network….both the OS are fully compatible
yes u need a vista printer to go with your vista laptop
make sure that the systems are networked together and that you installed the link layer discovery update (or SP3) to your XP machine. This can be found at

Also, check your firewall settings on the vista machine and set it to allow communications with the print spooler service.
