I was unable to install this program because the CD Key number that is needed was obscured by another sticker. Then after getting past that the program requires a whopping 5000 Mb on my crowded C drive, so I’ll have to adjust the C partition first.

We tried to install this program on our newest PC. No luck. The PC is fairly new as it was purchased within the last year at Amazon. Am in the process of trying again. Part of the problem is the software attempts to load, then fails, and seems to be a memory hog too. In the past we’ve used Roxio with no problems, and I am sure it will work once the installation issues are resolved.
I will update this review, if the installation is successful
UPDATE FEB 13, 2010
We managed to finally get the software to sort of install. Unfortunately the program, and program buttons, were not configured to work with our wide screen Asus computer monitor. Topping it off was the program’s ability to hog almost all known memory while being slow to function.
The program was very difficult to uninstall but it is now thankfully removed from our computer.
This is probably the poorest piece of software we’ve had the opportunity to use.
Would not recommend under any circumstances unless you like software that operates poorly.
Star rating: Minus three stars, if such a star rating was available.

If this was supposed to be a quality product, it should’ve arrived in at least a Manufacturer’s Retail Box. It didn’t. All I got was one DVD Program Overview disc inside a paper sleeve. It had no packaging. It had not even a hint of directions or any other thing included. So based upon other reviews I don’t think it’s even worth my time to see what’s on the disc.

I’ve tried a couple Roxio products thru the years, one that was preloaded on a new PC – and this creator that I purchased off Amazon. It’s all junk. Alot of cute looking icons loaded into a program that can’t support itself on any operating system without maxing out the available PC’s resources. Locks up, forces user to shut down + restart. FYI – it’s not my 2ghz, 2gb ram, 320Gb Hdd Dell laptop that has the problem… Junk – best clue I can give- if you do any type of editing (video, audio, etc) drop the $$ and get a Mac – use Apple’s built in software.

It seems these days it’s impossible to buy software that isn’t loaded down with junk that you won’t ever use or badly written code that devours your computer’s resources. ROXIO creator 2010 is another example of how you can take some fine applications and ruin them by tying them to a bloated and unnecessarily complicated interface. The concept of a ‘one stop’ application for media editing and authoring in itself isn’t a bad idea. The problem is with the execution.
Even Microsoft Office allows you to choose which elements you’d like to install (for example you can install Word and Excel but not Outlook). With Roxio, it’s all or nothing–don’t plant to do DVD editing? Too bad. You get all 100mb of files for that application even if you’ll never use it. There is no way to simply install the tools you’ll use and ignore those you won’t. Then each program is tied together with a clunky interface that is supposed to make it easier to get projects done but can actually be more confusing than anything.
That said, most of the actual processes of ROXIO CREATOR work just fine once you get the thing installed (took a couple of attempts on my Windows 7 notebook). DVD authoring works tolerably well, but is far inferior to Apple’s iMovie. For music, either iTunes or WMP11 (Window Media Player) are far better choices for ripping and burning, and don’t take 2-3 minutes to load up like this behemoth software suite.
Basically this is a massive chunk of applications all tied together with one less than friendly user interface. You can find free (and most of the time superior) tools that do the bulk of what ROXIO CREATOR does on the web.
It’s worth noting that of all the Vine program items I’ve received for reviewing, this the worst presentation I’ve seen. I received a single disk in a white paper envelope. No box, not manual, no installation instructions. Compared to other companies who have even included special support instructions for Vine reviewers, ROXIO really left a lot to be desired. I’m not bringing that up because of fussiness, but because a company that shows this little care when sending a product out FOR THE PURPOSE OF BEING REVIEWED will probably show even less care with a normal customer.
2/5 Stars
Functional but slow, bloated, and not nearly as slick as the competition.
