We still have a lively job planned soon, guard very first time that in months we’ll be shooting in the countryside. Corporations quarter or so we’re doing work in and around Bangkok, and even while there are many challenges felt challenging at that moment it has been a cake walk in comparison to the job we now have appearing in the future.
An already-established Thai friend of ours comes from a major city about midway between Bangkok also, the Laos border. It is a tiny village, also, the types of place young Thais are wanting to escape with the big city. When you passed it to the train to Vientiane would you have the second thought, however has a place in my heart.
The key reason why I really enjoy the village is the fact every family living there’s their personal elephant. It’s actually a crazy little place, because the elephants might wander about at their leisure it’s actually an excellent spot to shoot wildlife.
Now, to the outskirts on the village sits a substance properties of as a famous charity that rescues abandoned and mistreated elephants (there are a number of which within Thailand, sadly). They demand some high-impact footage to assist raise funds, so my family and i have donated a couple of days of all time to go to the compound and traverse this particular are interested in elephants that rescuing.
The problem is that the village isn’t coupled to the national grid, and also house we’ll be working from is free of generator. There will be no way to charge the Canon LP-E6 batteries I take advantage of for my 7D, so before we leave I’ll will need to plan my power needs assure to adopt enough equipment for three events of shooting.
An entirely charged Canon LP-E6 gives around 800 shots to the 7D. Based on my rough estimates I’ll need three of those to absolve the task. Unfortunately I simply have two, and at this moment I really don’t have the funds in-country to consider an additional. Damn.
So, here’s the diet plan. In order to stretch the vitality over 3 days I would like to transform my gadget-packed, power hungry 7D in a simple, basic, long-lasting manual camera. This indicates…
- No Live View
The LCD screen drinks via the battery can be wouldn’t believe, and composing my shots using Live View would kill my power with a few hours. So, for the trip I will be shooting exclusively within the viewfinder.
- No burst shooting
By using a 7D along with a roomy SD card it’s tempting to switch on burst mode hoping you will catch that perfect shot by chance. That’s a great idea, yet it’s also a power hungry technique. Single shots only for this trip, then.
- No auto-focus or perhaps
My L lenses offer incredibly accurate auto focus, as well as image stabilization is unparalleled, but both features are battery killers. Manual focus could very well be better than auto, so each pair of an effort requires little longer to set up it’ll really squeeze the most my Canon LP-E6 batteries.
Along with a little luck these basic cutbacks will probably be enough to stretch the life span of my batteries covering the necessary three days. Whether or not it works Allow me to count on a small number of hundred fantastic shots of soon-to-be-rescued elephants. If it is not, I’ll have to step out again not much later. Wish me luck!
If you find yourself in need of a Canon LP-E6 Battery this one is available on Amazon.com and I highly recommend it.
