The crescent is part of windows &#8211; first introduced in vista &#8211; which appears when you hover in the middle at the top of the screen. It provides a quick link to 6 areas.<br />
Security, Communication, office, entertainment, internet and anti-virus. It is very annoying as it crops up when navigating the desktop if you stray near that area.</p>
