I am normally not one to leave reviews, but I have come to rely on them quite a bit so here it goes . . .
I have owned a fair number of laptops in my lifetime, and most recently was coming off of a pretty high end Sony. The Sony bit the dust a few months ago, and I tried to replace it with an Asus netbook since I was working primarily off of a desktop and 95% of my work is done online and with Microsoft Office products. Even as a secondary computer I found the Asus close to worthless so I sold it on Ebay and then elected to wait for Windows 7 to be released. The Toshiba seemed like it offered the best bang for the buck when compared to Acer, Lenovo, Sony, and Asus (which I would never buy again).
The good:
Size and Weight – For me the 13.3″ is the perfect size and weight. There is plenty of screen real estate, and the weight makes it easy to travel with.
Speed – I have seen absolutely no issues with the computer bogging down or having any issues doing what I ask of it. It might be a result of Windows 7, but overall it seems plenty powerful.
Price – For what you get for the price it really does seem like a great value.
Battery – I probably don’t have enough time with the laptop to make final conclusions about the battery, but so far it seems to be good. I have not watched it too closely, but my guess is that I am getting four to five hours on a charge.
The Average:
Screen – The image quality is fine but only if you are looking at it straight on . . . anything other than that and the quality degrades quickly. Also along these lines, the screen can’t tilt/pivot back very far which could be a big issue for some.
Overall Build – While the overall feel of the computer seems solid enough, there is certainly an awful lot of plastic. This is not the metal bodied Mac or a high end Sony in build or quality.
The Bad:
Slime – My biggest issue with the computer is that the glossy plastic finish of the computer picks up so much grease from your hands that it looks like there was an oil spill on your laptop. The Asus netbook that I had suffered from the same problem, but fortunately Toshiba elected to have the mouse/track pad be made from a different material so it at least doesn’t affect navigation. The keys on the keyboard are also a little slick, but not nearly as bad as the rest of the computer. My guess is the white version would help hide this problem but I have not seen one in person to confirm that.
Overall I am happy with the laptop, especially given the price, but there is certainly some room for improvement.

This is the first laptop I have ever owned. I have always been a desktop user, mainly because I play video games. This laptop is pretty much like a netbook (it doesn’t come with an optical drive so you have to purchase an external drive).
Pros:
Small
Lightweight
Great design (mine is in black)
Webcam
USB Sleep & Charge (Charges my ipod when the laptop isn’t on)
Face Recognition?
Warm (It doesn’t get super hot like Dell does) You can use this laptop for hours without getting an icepack for your lap.
Cons:
The keyboard is kind of small for me. The arrow buttons are tiny and crunched up. Sometimes my arms and hands feel a bit sore.
I can’t see the keyboard when the room is dark…maybe because I have the black color.
Toshiba bloatware
The mousepad is slightly different. It feels like those special gaming mousepads: hardened, rough.
The left click and red click are in a different position, slightly lower of the mousepad. This can be troublesome at times. It’s also made up of a reflective metal, so your fingerprints will show (not much of a con for me).
Neutral:
Battery life is more like 4-5 hours. Most companies advertise false battery life for normal-above average users. It’ll probably run 9 hours if you just let it run it’s screensaver only…
Overall, this is a great laptop for those who move around a lot. The laptop came with a free anti-virus program, but you can get a free AV program from Microsoft Security Essentials now.

Very sleek and beautiful LIGHT notebook, but you’ll need the external optical drive for $60 more. I was impressed with the quality and ‘Maciness’ of this baby, especially in the white which is just beautiful and allows you to see the keys better in a darkened room. The Core 2 Duo speed, bluetooth, webcam are all plusses. The one drawback I see is that I and the reviewers at Bestbuy find the touchpad to be clunky, grainy with the mouse harder to finely control and the buttons too narrow but unresponsive. You have to concentrate on touching them on the very end where leverage is better and your fingers won’t get worn out. All in all, gorgeous to look at, lug around and mostly use. I found the touchpad clunky and rough compared to my Dell so I gave this only 3 stars. An inexpensive external USB mouse would solve this problem.
Also, it says Windows 7 Professional or higher is required to run legacy apps in the special XP emulator mode–however it runs the 16-bit Norton Filemanager which can set a filespec and branch directories just fine!
